Wine & Books Hotels makes its debut in the Michelin Guide, with a Key awarded to each of its properties in Lisbon and Porto. This recognition marks an important milestone for the brand, placing both hotels among the outstanding accommodations selected by the Michelin Guide.
Michelin Keys are awarded by the Guide’s inspectors following a comprehensive assessment based on five universal criteria: excellence in architecture and interior design; quality and consistency of service; overall personality and character; value for money; and a significant contribution to the neighbourhood or surrounding environment. For Wine & Books Hotels, this distinction reflects an ongoing commitment to creating carefully considered and memorable experiences, inspired by Portugal’s relationship with literature and wine.
In Lisbon’s historic Ajuda neighbourhood, where monuments, tiled façades and quiet residential streets reveal a different rhythm of the city, Wine & Books Lisboa enjoys a privileged location overlooking the dome of Igreja da Memória.
The hotel is a celebration of Portugal through a contemporary perspective. Welcoming, tactile interiors, a carefully curated selection of books and a strong sense of Portuguese craftsmanship shape spaces where the country’s literary and wine traditions naturally intertwine with the experience. With just 24 rooms, the atmosphere is intimate, filled with natural light and offering views over terracotta rooftops, church domes and the Baroque architecture of one of Lisbon’s most distinctive neighbourhoods.
At the heart of the hotel, Tasca da Memória brings this experience to the table, combining traditional recipes with Portuguese wines. A place designed to linger: a glass of wine, an open book and conversations that continue long after dinner.
Wine & Books Lisboa offers a closer perspective on life in Lisbon’s neighbourhoods, while remaining within walking distance of some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, Ajuda National Palace, the National Coach Museum and MAAT can all be easily explored on foot from the hotel.
In the historic centre, Wine & Books Porto is located in the city’s literary quarter, home to the iconic Livraria Lello and Moreira da Costa, Porto’s oldest bookshop. From here, much of the city can be explored on foot, through historic streets, cafés and bookshops, with many of Porto’s main attractions easily accessible.
Inside the hotel, the connection to Porto continues. The Café draws inspiration from the tradition of the city’s historic cafés, while the wine list explores different Portuguese regions, with Port Wine — one of the city’s most internationally recognised wines — naturally taking centre stage. Contemporary and comfortable rooms, a rooftop terrace with 360-degree views over the city and a 20-metre indoor pool in the wellness area complete the experience, balancing the energy of the city with moments to slow down.
“This recognition from the Michelin Guide is particularly meaningful for us and our teams,” says Joana Saraiva, General Manager of Wine & Books Hotels. “It comes in a particularly important year for the brand, marked by the launch of the Wine & Books Club Pairing Boxes, our role as a hotel partner of BABELL, which brought some of the biggest names in international literature to Porto, including Nobel Prize-winning authors, and other important milestones for our hotels: Wine & Books Lisboa joined Takumians by Traveller Made, while Wine & Books Porto was highlighted by Condé Nast Traveller. The Michelin Keys now add to these milestones and, above all, recognise the dedication, care and attention to detail of our teams, who continue to create thoughtful and personalised experiences for our guests every day,” adds Joana Saraiva.
