SUD Lisboa – Nine Years in Rhythm with the Tagus

Between the light of Lisbon, Mediterranean cuisine and a hospitality shaped by thoughtful gestures, SUD Lisboa celebrates nine years and opens the doors to a new chapter. There are places in Lisbon where the relationship with the Tagus goes beyond location. At SUD Lisboa, the river is not simply a backdrop: it is an integral part of the architecture, the atmosphere and the experience itself. The view over the 25 de Abril Bridge and Christ the King creates one of the city’s most recognizable visual landscapes and, almost naturally, places the space within Lisbon’s collective imagination.

Gastronomy, events, celebrations and lifestyle come together in a distinctive language of hospitality, shared by Terrazza, Pool Lounge and Hall. The result is a contemporary interpretation of the city: cosmopolitan, confident in its identity and, at the same time, deeply connected to the place that embraces it.

When it opened its doors in July 2017, Lisbon was going through one of the most intense periods in its recent history. The Portuguese capital was discovering a new international projection, hotels and restaurants were multiplying, and a new generation of travellers was arriving, interested in experiences with a sense of identity, capable of revealing the destination beyond the obvious places.

SUD Lisboa was born during this moment of transformation and grew alongside it. Over nine years, it has accompanied an increasingly cosmopolitan city, a Portuguese gastronomy progressively recognized beyond its borders, and a new understanding of luxury – one that no longer depends on excess, but is expressed through time, attention and authenticity.

For Salomé Gorgiladze, Managing Director of SUD Lisboa & SANA Hotels, “Nine years represent consistency. In an industry where everything evolves at such an incredible pace, managing to keep a project relevant for almost a decade is perhaps the greatest achievement.”

The consistency Salomé Gorgiladze refers to does not mean remaining unchanged. On the contrary: it comes from the ability to recognise what needs to evolve without losing what makes a place immediately recognisable. At SUD Lisboa, this identity was built around an extraordinary location, but it has never depended solely on it. The view is the first impression; the experience is what remains.

From the very beginning, the ambition was to create a universe where gastronomy, hospitality, music, lifestyle and events could come together naturally. Not a single space, but different ways of experiencing it, all connected by the same attention to detail.

Three Spaces, One Way of Welcoming

At Terrazza, contemporary Mediterranean cuisine follows the movement of the river, creating the setting for leisurely lunches, late afternoons and dinners that seem to extend Lisbon over the water.

It is also here that SUD Lisboa reveals one of its most emblematic experiences: a riverside lunch, when the city slows down and the Tagus becomes part of the table. Sitting at Terrazza in the early afternoon, overlooking the 25 de Abril Bridge, means experiencing Lisbon in a particularly bright and relaxed way. Between Mediterranean flavours, the gentle river breeze and a landscape that slowly changes throughout the hours, lunch becomes one of those moments when there is no real rush to leave. It is a lifestyle experience that perhaps better than any other captures SUD Lisboa’s relationship with the city: sophisticated, sun-drenched and deeply connected to the pleasure of simply being there.

During the warmer months, Pool Lounge reveals a different rhythm. Days begin by the pool and stretch towards sunset, surrounded by music, flavours and conversation. It is one of the most spontaneous expressions of SUD Lisboa’s lifestyle: cosmopolitan, sun-filled and intimately connected to summer in the capital.

At Hall, the scale changes, but the sense of welcome remains. Weddings, galas, national and international brand launches, corporate gatherings and private celebrations find a versatile space, designed to transform itself according to each story. More than simply hosting events, SUD Lisboa seeks to create an atmosphere that gives them their own identity.

This philosophy is summed up by Salomé Gorgiladze: “Every person arrives at SUD for a different reason. Our commitment is to ensure that everyone finds the same level of attention, care and authenticity, regardless of the occasion.”

Perhaps it is in this continuity that one of the project’s greatest strengths lies. Some discover SUD Lisboa over dinner and return to celebrate a wedding. Companies come back to entrust the team with new gatherings. Visitors arrive because of the view and end up carrying with them the memory of a gesture, a flavour or a special evening.

For its eighth anniversary, Under The Stars translated precisely this vocation. By the Tagus, some of Portugal’s most renowned Michelin-starred chefs shared an evening of haute cuisine, entertainment and hospitality, celebrating SUD Lisboa’s ability to bring worlds together and transform encounters into experiences.

The Next Chapter

At nine years old, SUD Lisboa does not look back at the past with nostalgia. The anniversary opens a new chapter, with projects and experiences to be revealed over the coming months and the same original ambition: to surprise, elevate every visit and strengthen the brand’s connection to Lisbon and the world.

For Salomé Gorgiladze, the most important recognition remains simple and deeply human: the return. “When a client comes back, when a company places its trust in our team once again, or when a couple chooses to celebrate different moments of their lives here, it is this relationship built over time that gives true meaning to our work.”

Perhaps that is the truest measure of distinction: not simply to be seen, but to be remembered; not simply to accompany a city, but to become part of the way it is experienced. Time has passed. The place has remained. And the next chapter has just begun.
