Omakase Wa’s intimate experience is limited to just 10 seats each night

Omakase Wa, a restaurant dedicated to Japanese cuisine and located near Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon, has entered a new phase. However, it remains faithful to the Japanese omakase concept, in which diners are entirely in the hands of the chef’s choices.

After being included in the Michelin Guide’s recommendations in the latest edition, it has opted for a décor that evokes Portuguese identity and an omakase experience inspired by the tradition of Edomae Sushi, the technique developed in Tokyo during the Edo period that favours methods such as maturation, salt curing and vinegar marinades.

Led by chef Ashik Yonjan, sous chef Danilo Moreira and chef de partie Mateus Martins, Omakase Wa has just ten counter seats and two services per night (7 p.m. and 9h30 p.m.). The menu is designed according to seasonality, comprising 15 courses and created daily by the chef, right in front of the diners.

This intimate experience costs 105€ per person and can be accompanied by a sake pairing, created by an in-house sommelier certified by the Sake Sommelier Association (SSA). The restaurant only serves dinner from 7 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. and is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

“With the renovation of the space’s décor, we felt that we had taken the next step. We elevated the customer experience upon entering the dining room, refined the menu and further enriched the memories of those who visit us. The recognition in the Michelin Guide served as motivation for us to aspire to the guide’s main distinction, and we believe we are presenting an Omakase Wa capable of achieving that dream, which everyone on the team shares”, says chef Ashik Yonjan.
