Marjorie Raymond: translating emotion into art, one layer at a time

For over 25 years, Marjorie Raymond has been more than an artist, she has been a storyteller of emotion, using paint not simply as a medium but as language. Often described as an artist extraordinaire and a poet through texture, her work transforms intangible feelings into visual form, echoing the poetic notion of “a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings”.

Although based in Dubai for nearly two decades, her identity is shaped by three cultural worlds: the warmth and rhythm of Brazil, where she grew up; the structure and refinement of France; and the cosmopolitan energy of the UAE. These influences merge into a style that feels both instinctive and meticulously composed – raw, refined, and deeply human. For Raymond, art begins with emotion, not concept. Each painting arises like an eruption, joy, desire, surrender, calm, longing, coexisting in delicate tension. Her canvases are tactile experiences, built not only with paint but with rock, charcoal, glass, and diamond dust, layered into rich surfaces that can be felt as much as seen. Every material is chosen intuitively, guided by internal movement rather than theory. In her world, color is not decorative, it is emotional frequency.

This emotional dialogue became the theme of her recent exhibition, “Transference”, which explores the invisible current connecting artist, artwork, and viewer. Her pieces do not merely express her personal narrative; they invite others to find their own memory within them.

Among her most notable works is Ecstasy II, a monumental composition of rock, charcoal, paint, and diamond dust that embodies unrestrained vibrancy and expressive motion. Beyond her canvases, her bronze sculptures, such as Entwined, capture human connection in forms that evoke lovers, parent and child, or souls bound by silent permanence.

Raymond’s works have been showcased at the Mercedes- Benz Brand Centre in Dubai Design District and now reside in prestigious spaces including The Royal Atlantis, Bulgari Residences, Al Habtoor offices, and private collections across the UAE. Her pieces do not decorate interiors, they inhabit them, giving rhythm, depth, and emotional resonance to architectural space. Ultimately, Marjorie Raymond creates from vulnerability and truth. What remains on her canvases is more than color and form, it is emotion, suspended in timeless permanence.
