Au-delà du Réel comes to Perspective Galerie at Palacete Severo, in the heart of Porto

Upon returning to the city, Perspective Galerie invites all art lovers to visit Palacete Severo and discover this group exhibition, featuring works by Fabienne Houzé-Ricard, Mireille Robbe, Juan Manuel Rodriguez and Madeleine Guiton. Through painting, drawing and installation, the four artists explore the subtle boundary between reality and its transformation. In this exhibition, the familiar begins to reveal new possibilities: an object takes on an unexpected presence, an old image embraces a new narrative, a landscape becomes an extension of a memory, and an everyday scene is transformed through the effects of light and perception.

Au-delà du Réel therefore invites visitors to reflect on the way we look at and interpret the world, at a time when images are playing an increasingly central role in how we experience and construct reality. Between memory, imagination and perception, Fabienne Houzé-Ricard has spent several years developing a body of work centred around the nest, understood simultaneously as a primordial form, a refuge and a mental space. In her États d’âme series, this architecture of the living becomes home to objects, plant elements and materials that gradually transform the nest into an inner landscape.

Mireille Robbe works with old engravings, which she reactivates through colour and the emergence of unexpected forms. Landscapes, architectural scenes and historical imagery become the foundations for new fictions. The archive is thus opened up to the present and regains its capacity for transformation.

Juan Manuel Rodriguez paints landscapes and skies drawn from memory. Clouds, horizons and atmospheric variations create a space that exists somewhere between lived experience and mental reconstruction. The precision of the visible world meets an almost dreamlike dimension.

Madeleine Guiton is interested in the mechanisms of perception and in the way images transform our relationship with reality. Working from photographs and everyday scenes, she explores framing, contrast, colour and light — whether natural, artificial or emitted by screens — to reveal the instability of what we believe we see.

Presented throughout the different spaces of Palacete Severo, the works also resonate with the architecture and functions of the venue. The exhibition unfolds from room to room, creating connections between the artworks and inviting visitors to experience reality as something constantly in motion.

In Au-delà du Réel*, the extraordinary therefore emerges from within the familiar: at the precise moment when the gaze allows itself to see things differently.
