Dar Dada – Flavors and Charms of Casablanca

In the heart of Casablanca, where traditions meet modern cosmopolitanism, is Dar Dada, a restaurant that offers a unique sensory experience, engaging visitors in a celebration of culture and genuine Moroccan hospitality.

Located in the medina, the Dar Dada restaurant occupies the different floors of a riad near the “Arsa” garden. The interior is simply stunning and the atmosphere instantly seduces. As we approach the street, a host directs us with a torch to the entrance of the restaurant, where we are welcomed with mint tea, served as required. Despite its grandeur, with capacity for 250 people, and the various rooms that make it up, the space remains intimate, decorated soberly by Pascale Demoulin, whose decoration highlights zellige tiles, carved plaster and cedar wood, creating a harmonious and visually captivating space. Most of the photos that adorn the walls of Dar Dada are by Salah Bouade, a photographer known for his black and white work under the name “Marrakech Black & White”.

All staff are dressed in modernized traditional attire, such as vests and decorated babouches, adding a touch of charm and authenticity to the entire experience. The vibrant colors and soft lighting complete the entire scene and prepare the palate for an unforgettable gastronomic journey. Ines Berrada Sounni, Public Relations of the restaurant, explains to us that “Dar Dada is a unique project created by two women. It serves cuisine inspired by the Fassi tradition, where Moroccan cuisine recipes are passed down through generations, from mother to daughter.” Each dish reflects the passion and care with which it was made, and this is felt, it is pure art. A celebration that honors the past and future of Moroccan cuisine.

Always with a smile on his face, Anas brings to our table dishes that exude aromas of spices such as cinnamon, saffron and cumin, in a perfect combination of sweet and savory, and makes a point of explaining the origin of these delicacies and the cultural context that surrounds them, in an impeccable and captivating way, connecting the visitor to Morocco’s rich heritage. Tajines, Moroccan Salads and tempting desserts like Caramel Pastilla and Rosewater Ice Cream. Dinner is accompanied by live music and belly dancing, an entertainment where the entire audience participates and we feel involved in this vibrant party, like a big family home. To conclude, mint tea arrives with a small ceremony, accompanied by traditional sweets. It is the perfect ending to an experience that transcends gastronomy.

In Moroccan culture, the name “Dar Dada” translates as “The Nanny”, in homage to the caregiver who played a central role in raising children, celebrating the values of affection, care and family love. At the same time it symbolizes a place where guests can feel at home, surrounded by the warmth of Moroccan hospitality and the spirit of family values. After this experience, this is the main feeling, that we were welcomed and loved in a very special way. Dar Dada is not just a restaurant – it is an invitation to experience the essence of Casablanca in its most authentic and sophisticated form. A visit that leaves not only flavors in our memory, but also a deep admiration for the local culture. With torch in hand, the host returns to accompany us through the streets of Casablanca and we promise a future visit.
