When hotel excellence combines with the rehabilitation of a historic neighborhood, the result can only be excellent for everyone, this is the story of the new Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel. The hotel is located in the historic neighborhood of Lapa, where we can find a piece of Portugal’s history, told through its architecture, people and historical heritage, including the Lapa Church.
The Church of Lapa is closely linked to D. Pedro IV, a kind of patron of the church, and it is on its altar that the mausoleum that keeps the monarch’s heart under lock and key stands out. The works of art stand out, such as the 20 meter canvas by painter Joaquim Rafael or the wonderful stained glass windows surrounding the pipe organ! The pipe organ is also special, it is the largest instrument of its kind in Portugal, it weighs 32 tons and is more than 15 meters high, and its 4500 pipes produce a unique sound that delights all those who attend the church.
The Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel is located between the church, the typical buildings of the area, many of which are undergoing rehabilitation, and an urban park that is being created in front of it, 1.7 hectares that make this space the last large park in the city to be built. It should be noted that we are just a 25-minute walk from the Avenida dos Aliados area, meaning centrality and mobility are guaranteed. The hotel is a comfortable and luxurious urban refuge, the brand’s flagship in Europe that symbolizes a new generation of hotels under the Renaissance brand, bolder, with improved design, modern and vibrant common areas that immediately make us feel like we are in a special place.
Pastel pink and champagne gold tones are harmoniously distributed throughout the hotel, without ever forgetting the tribute to the Douro River through the use of multiple touches of petrol blue. Inside the hotel we also find a set of works of art by renowned Portuguese and international artists, with emphasis on the works of Pedrita Studio, Isabel Mello and a unique piece, made of corrugated iron and neon lights, by the Berlin artist, Clemens Behr.
There are 163 rooms and suites, with large windows open to the city offering views and light, generous in size and extremely comfortable. The furniture, with an elegant design, stands out for the use of noble materials, including walnut wood, the warm and welcoming tones are a constant and something that immediately characterizes the North of the country, 55” LCD TVs, high-quality sound systems quality, work tables, USB sockets and spacious bathrooms where we highlight the tiles on the floor, a note that immediately takes us back to local tradition and tiles, we loved it!
The hotel has a restaurant and two bars, in the restaurant the menu aims to present a gastronomic experience of Portuguese cuisine, with a strong Mediterranean and global influence. We highlight the famous pica pau, clams, fish and local meat cuts executed with mastery and originality, without ever forgetting the signature desserts. The bars offer signature cocktails (bar on the first floor and Sky bar on the fifth floor) and a snack menu available throughout the day, we highlight the bolo do caco with oven-baked pork leg, the burgers and traditional starters, without ever forget the bread that all Portuguese people love.
The infinity pool on the 5th floor, as well as the gym, offer unique views over the city. The hotel has a garage and chargers for electric cars, service for an additional fee. We also highlight the Renaissance Navigator service, the hotel brand’s concierge concept, which helps guests discover the best that Porto has to offer by creating personalized itineraries according to the tastes of each user. But the most valued extra, as always, is your team, young and motivated, they do everything to deliver the best service, at the best time, with the greatest smile and professionalism, thank you all.
