This summer you have one more good reason to visit Vila Baleira Porto Santo and the news are full of freshness and invites you to dive with the inauguration of the “Cipreia Dive Club” and the “SSI Explorers Program”, which provides adventure for the whole family!
As Porto Santo is a Biosphere Reserve and a small island paradise with fine golden sand, turquoise water and a particularly diverse marine fauna, this destination is perfect for diving, offering all the necessary conditions for one of the richest experiences in the world.
Thanks to the clarity of the waters that bathe the island, visibility conditions are considered excellent up to about 40 meters deep. As such, diving in Porto Santo is ideal for being able to marvel at the impetuosity of the rock formations and the liveliness of the biodiversity that can be found here. Grouper, dogfish, salemas, trevallies or lilies are just some of the species that will cross paths with you in the dynamic (but peaceful) life that takes place below the surface.
In addition, it is also in this dive site that you can find two ships purposely sunk at about 30 meters deep with the intention of serving as artificial reefs. We are talking about the “Madeirense”, taken to the bottom of the sea in 2000 and the “Corveta General Pereira d’Eça”, a Portuguese Navy warship sunk in 2016. Both ships are currently a safe house for a vast marine fauna that can find an unforgettable diving experience in Porto Santo.
This is an extremely important practice for Porto Santo and for Vila Baleira itself, attracting divers throughout the year, providing a unique experience to do solo, with a group of friends or with the family with the creation of the SSI Explorers Program, that allows children aged six to 16 years old to go underwater and experience different ways of exploring the aquatic world around them. This is also an excellent way to raise awareness among young people to have a solid foundation in ocean conservation while experiencing two incredible aquatic adventures: snorkeling and diving. In addition to fun for the whole family, children who have not yet reached the minimum age for diving will learn important life skills, as these underwater adventures will allow young divers to acquire maturity, self-esteem and a sense of responsibility.
